Tasting Notes

The 62 Gun Salute represents the pinnacle of Royal Salute’s blending mastery, honoring the highest ceremonial tradition in the British monarchy. This whisky is drawn from some of the rarest and most opulent stocks in the Chivas portfolio, aged up to and beyond 40 years. The nose is profoundly deep—plush dried fruits, dark chocolate ganache, spiced date cake, polished rosewood, antique cigar box, and fine leather all rise slowly from the glass. Every aroma is layered and mature. The palate is commanding yet smooth as velvet: fig jam, orange liqueur, old sherry, roasted chestnut, molasses toffee, and traces of walnut oil swirl together with complexity and length. There’s a rich smokiness here—subtle but persistent—evoking ceremonial torches, antique barrels, and autumn bonfires. The finish is eternal: waves of spice, oak, fruit, and toasted cacao roll on without haste.

Food Pairings

This is not a whisky for food as much as it is for occasion, but if paired, let it be with the extraordinary. Wagyu beef tartare with black truffle, foie gras on toasted brioche, or venison carpaccio with aged balsamic. Cheese should be mature and regal—Montgomery cheddar, 24-month aged gouda, or rare stilton with quince. Conclude with pure dark chocolate truffles, saffron-laced crème caramel, or roasted figs with port reduction. Decanted, displayed, and slowly sipped—this is legacy in liquid form.
