About the product

The LOUIS XIII Rare Cask is not just a cognac; it is a miracle of nature and a pinnacle of human craftsmanship. In the world of fine spirits, a "Rare Cask" is a phenomenon that occurs perhaps once in a lifetime. It is a single, ancient oak tierçon (cask) discovered in the deepest corners of the LOUIS XIII cellars that has developed an aromatic profile so intense, so singular, and so perfect that it is set aside from all other blends.

To own a bottle of Rare Cask is to hold one of only a few hundred decanters in existence—a true "1-of-1" experience that represents the absolute apex of the Grande Champagne region.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Tasting Notes (Rare Cask 42.1)

  • Nose: A profound and dense bouquet. It leads with floral notes of dried roses and iris, followed by exotic fruits, passion fruit, and a distinct hint of cigar box.
  • Palate: Uniquely structured and "sturdy" compared to the classic blend. You will find honey, plum, and date, punctuated by gingerbread and agarwood (oud).
  • Finish: Practically eternal. It leaves a resonant echo of myrrh, sandalwood, and leather that can be tasted for nearly an hour after a single sip.

Service & Pairing

  • The Ritual: Rare Cask 42.1 is presented as a "ritual set." It includes the black crystal decanter, a pair of crystal glasses adorned with black quatrefoils, and a serving pipette featuring a black medallion for precise, surgical pouring.
  • The "Neat" Rule: This spirit should never be chilled or mixed. It is intended to be sipped at room temperature (18°C–20°C) to allow the century-old molecules to evaporate and bloom.
  • Pairing: While usually enjoyed solo, it pairs spectacularly with Beluga Caviar or extremely dark (85%+) French chocolate, which mirror the mineral and earthy depths of the Cognac.

About the brand

Every decanter of Louis XIII is the life achievement of generations of Cellar Masters. It is a blend of eaux-de-vie sourced exclusively from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region. Finding a Rare Cask is a "once-in-a-career" event. Current Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau discovered 42.1 after noticing a single cask in the Domaine du Grollet cellars that had matured with an inexplicable aromatic intensity that defied the standard Louis XIII profile.
