About the product

Teeling Blackpitts Peated Irish Whiskey is a distinctive expression that challenges traditional Irish whiskey styles by incorporating peat, while maintaining the smoothness Ireland is known for. Named after the historic Blackpitts area of Dublin, once associated with malting and smoke, it reflects both heritage and innovation.

Unlike many peated whiskies, Blackpitts is triple distilled, resulting in a softer, more refined smoke profile. On the palate, it delivers notes of grilled pineapple, citrus, and apple, layered with gentle peat smoke, barbecue tones, and a touch of clove and spice. Subtle sweetness and hints of vanilla round out the experience.

The texture is smooth and approachable, with a balanced interplay between fruit and smoke. The finish is clean, lightly smoky, and slightly sweet, lingering without overwhelming.

Modern and versatile, Teeling Blackpitts offers a unique take on peated whiskey, making it ideal for both newcomers and those looking for a softer, fruit-forward smoky profile.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

Because of the Sauternes influence, the 2026 batches are noted for a "tropical bonfire" profile that balances dry heat with sticky fruit sweetness.

  • Nose Sophisticated and savory. It opens with charred marshmallow and BBQ smoke, followed by bright layers of cloves, butterscotch, and orange peel.
  • Palate Rich and multi-layered. You will find honeyed malt and stewed pears leading the way, transitioning into a mid-palate of grilled pineapple and allspice. The smoke is "Applewood" in character—sweet, woody, and persistent.
  • Finish Long and "salty-sweet." It leaves a lingering trail of salted caramel and savory smoke, with a final, refreshing hint of wood spice and oak tannins.

Food Pairings

The combination of Sauternes fruit and BBQ smoke makes this whiskey a versatile partner for bold, umami-rich foods.

  • Savory Smoked Salmon with Caper Berries. The brine of the capers and the fattiness of the salmon harmonize with the whiskey's "sea salt and caramel" finish.
  • Main Glazed Pork Ribs or Smoked Brisket. The "Applewood" smoke in the glass is a direct mirror to the smoke used in high-end BBQ.
  • Cheese Tangy Aged Cheddar or Roquefort. The sharpness of an aged cheddar cuts through the honeyed sweetness of the Sauternes casks.
  • Sweet Sticky Toffee Pudding or Grilled Pineapple. This is a "mirror pairing"—the dessert’s dark sugar and tropical notes amplify the pineapple and caramel notes in the spirit.

About the brand

Teeling opened its doors in 2015 as the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. The Blackpitts expression is named after the historic district behind the distillery which was once the heart of Dublin's malting industry. In 2026, Teeling was named "Whiskey Brand of the Year" at the Spirits Business Awards, largely due to their ability to innovate while respecting tradition. Blackpitts is their answer to the growing global demand for "approachable peat"—a whiskey that offers the drama of smoke without the "hospital/band-aid" flavor profile that can be polarizing for newcomers.
