About the product

A limited-edition release from the Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series, the 2026 Steward’s Release highlights the craftsmanship behind the distillery’s signature wheated bourbon. This expression is designed to reflect the role of the production teams who manage every stage of the whiskey-making process, from grain to bottle.

Built on Maker’s Mark’s classic wheated mash bill, this release undergoes an additional finishing process using custom-selected oak staves inserted into fully matured barrels. This secondary maturation enhances the bourbon’s natural sweetness and adds layers of complexity, while maintaining the smooth, rounded profile the brand is known for.

The result is a rich and expressive bourbon with a dessert-forward character balanced by structure and spice. It opens with aromas of baked cherry, vanilla, and light oak. On the palate, it develops into notes of honey, toasted sugar, and gentle baking spice, supported by a soft, creamy texture. The finish is long and evolving, with lingering sweetness, subtle fruit, and a touch of oak-driven warmth.

Bottled at cask strength, typically ranging between 56% and 59% ABV, it delivers intensity while preserving the approachable and polished style that defines Maker’s Mark.

Produced in limited quantities but widely distributed compared to highly allocated releases, the Steward’s Release is positioned as a premium but accessible expression within the modern bourbon landscape.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Tasting Notes

Opens with soft, dessert-forward aromas of baked cherry, vanilla cream, and light toasted oak. The palate is rounded and full, driven by notes of honey, caramelized sugar, and toasted marshmallow, layered with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a gentle oak spice. The wheated base keeps everything smooth and cohesive, giving it a creamy texture rather than sharp intensity. The finish is long and warming, with lingering sweetness, light spice, and a subtle hint of dried fruit and oak.

Food Pairings

Starter creamy cheeses like Brie, Camembert, or fresh goat cheese that match the bourbon’s soft, sweet profile

Main Course roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, or glazed ham where the natural sweetness complements the meat

Grilled lightly charred pork chops or honey-glazed ribs that mirror the caramelized notes in the whiskey

Dessert bread pudding, crème brûlée, vanilla-based desserts, or anything with caramel or baked fruit elements

After Dinner butter cookies, biscotti, or lightly sweet pastries that won’t overpower the bourbon’s balance

This one leans much more toward sweet, rounded, and approachable compared to heavy oak-driven bourbons, so pairings should follow that direction instead of going too aggressive.
