About the product

Indri Trini “The Three Wood” Agneya is a pioneering Indian single malt whisky crafted in the foothills of the Himalayas. Made using traditional techniques and locally sourced ingredients, it reflects a distinctive regional character shaped by India’s unique climate and maturation conditions.

Matured in a combination of three different wood casks, this expression develops a complex and well-rounded profile. On the palate, it offers notes of dried fruit, honey, and vanilla, layered with hints of spice, toasted wood, and subtle sweetness. The influence of multiple casks brings depth while maintaining balance and elegance.

The texture is smooth and slightly creamy, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering notes of spice and gentle oak.

Innovative yet rooted in tradition, Indri Trini stands out as a refined and expressive whisky, showcasing the growing craftsmanship of India’s single malt category.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

Because of the higher ABV, the Agneya is significantly more "explosive" on the palate than the standard Trini.

  • Nose: A concentrated blast of black tea, caramelized pineapple, and dark honey. Underneath, there are deeper notes of sandalwood, roasted nuts, and vanilla bean.
  • Palate: Very viscous and coating. It opens with spicy cinnamon and clove, followed by stewed plums and red berries from the wine and sherry casks. There is a distinct "tropical funk"—like overripe mango and banana.
  • Finish: Long and warming. It leaves a lingering trail of tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, and a dry, oaky spice that tingles on the tongue.

Food Pairings

This "fire" inspired whisky demands bold, spicy, and savory-sweet flavors.

  • Savory (Indian): Tandoori Lamb Chops. The smoky char from the tandoor oven matches the "fire" theme, while the succulent lamb handles the 55%+ ABV.
  • Savory (Global): Barbecue Smoked Brisket. The fat and black pepper bark of the brisket harmonize beautifully with the bourbon and sherry wood influences.
  • Cheese: Extra-Aged Gouda. The caramel-like sweetness and crunchy salt crystals in the cheese are a perfect mirror for the whisky's honeyed malt.
  • Sweet: Dark Chocolate Tart with Chili. The chili heat mirrors the "Agneya" fire, while the chocolate amplifies the PX sherry notes.

About the brand

The "Agneya" Concept: In Indian philosophy, Agni is the god of fire and a symbol of transformation. This bottling celebrates the "fire" of the Haryana climate, where extreme heat accelerates the interaction between the spirit and the wood.

Global Recognition: Indri gained "cult" status in 2023–2024 after winning several "Best in Show" awards, often beating out prestigious Scottish and Japanese labels.

6-Row Barley: Unlike most Scottish whiskies that use 2-row barley, Indri uses indigenous 6-row barley from Rajasthan, which offers a smaller grain with more husk—resulting in a richer, oilier, and more flavorful spirit.
