Tasting Profile & Food Pairings
Taste Notes
The "Happiest Hour" edition emphasizes the "aperitivo" style—elegant, bright, and designed to open the palate.
- Nose Sophisticated and floral. You will find notes of dried rose petals and red berries, followed by a creamy undercurrent of vanilla, toasted almonds, and butterscotch.
- Palate Silky and balanced. It opens with cooked agave sweetness and dark cherry, transitioning into a mid-palate of oak-driven cocoa and light baking spices. The wine barrel influence provides a faint, pleasant acidity.
- Finish Smooth and lingering. It leaves a trail of refined oak and vanilla, with a clean exit that lacks the "pepper burn" of younger tequilas.
Food Pairings
Because of its red-wine barrel influence and fruitier profile, this Añejo pairs beautifully with Mediterranean and "Sunset Hour" small plates.
- Savory Prosciutto-Wrapped Figs or Jamón Ibérico. The saltiness of the cured meat highlights the stone fruit and vanilla notes in the tequila.
- Main Grilled Lamb Lollipops with a Balsamic Glaze. The tannins from the French oak and the dark cherry notes in the spirit complement the richness of the lamb.
- Cheese Aged Manchego or Sharp White Cheddar. The nuttiness of the cheese brings out the toasted almond notes from the barrel aging.
- Sweet Dark Chocolate Truffles with Sea Salt. The cocoa and salt act as a bridge to the tequila's butterscotch finish.
About the brand
Código 1530 was once known only as "El Tequila Privado," a private spirit shared among a small circle of families in Los Bajos for generations. It was brought to the public by a group of founders including Ron Snyder (former CEO of Crocs) and country music legend George Strait. The brand’s philosophy is rooted in "No Solamente" (No Shortcuts), using three times the amount of agave per liter compared to industrial brands and sourcing water filtered through volcanic rocks in the Amatitán region. Their signature move is the use of French White Oak wine barrels from Napa Valley, which gives their tequila a distinctive pinkish hue in the younger expressions and a refined, silky tannin structure in the Añejo.
