Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Stagg Batch 25B

  • Taste Notes: Robust and traditional. The nose is dominated by barrel char, molasses, and aged leather. The palate is a powerful wave of dark brown sugar, cold-brew coffee, and cocoa powder, balanced by a sharp hit of black pepper and cinnamon stick. It finishes with a long, dry heat featuring notes of mixed dark berries and toasted oak.
  • Food Pairings:Entrée: Smoked beef short ribs or candied bacon (the salt and smoke perfectly cut through the high-proof sweetness).Cheese: Aged Gouda or a sharp, crumbly Stilton.Dessert: Pecan pie or dark chocolate-covered espresso beans.

About the brand

Stagg (formerly Stagg Jr.): This brand honors George T. Stagg, the 19th-century whiskey tycoon who built the "Gilded Age" distillery now known as Buffalo Trace. While the ultra-rare George T. Stagg is aged 15+ years, this series (introduced in 2013) offers the same raw, barrel-proof intensity with a younger, punchier profile (typically aged 8–9 years).

The "25B" Designation: In late 2022, Buffalo Trace dropped the "Jr." from the label to signal the brand's maturity. The code 25B identifies this as the second major release of 2025. This batch is highly regarded by enthusiasts for its "classic" profile, leaning more into deep oak and leather than the fruit-forward nature of other recent batches.
