About The Product
Russells Reserve Single Barrel Rye is a celebrated expression of Kentucky Straight Rye, personally selected by Master Distiller Eddie Russell from the Wild Turkey Distillery. Similar to its bourbon counterpart, each bottle of this rye whiskey originates from a single, hand-picked barrel, ensuring a unique and often intense flavor profile that varies with each individual barrel. The whiskey is made from Wild Turkeys proprietary rye mash bill, which contains a significant percentage of rye along with corn and malted barley. This mash bill, combined with the distillerys unique yeast and distillation methods, forms the foundational character of the spirit. After distillation, the new-make spirit is filled into new, heavily charred American oak barrels (char #4, or "alligator char") at a low barrel entry proof. This allows for deep penetration into the wood and robust flavor extraction during aging. The barrels are typically aged for approximately 6-8 years, or sometimes longer, in Wild Turkeys traditional Kentucky rickhouses. The single barrel selection process means that Eddie Russell personally tastes and approves each barrel, choosing those that exhibit exceptional complexity, balance, and the distinctive bold and spicy character that Russells Reserve Rye is known for. This commitment to single barrel excellence results in a full-flavored, non-chill filtered rye whiskey, often bottled at 104 proof (52% ABV), showcasing the best of Wild Turkeys rye production.
