About the product
Riazul Cristalino Añejo Tequila is a refined expression that combines the depth of an aged añejo with the clarity and smoothness of a filtered spirit. Crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged in oak barrels, it undergoes charcoal filtration to remove color while preserving complexity.
On the palate, it offers a balanced profile of cooked agave, vanilla, and caramel, layered with notes of toasted oak, light spice, and subtle dried fruit. The filtration process softens the texture, resulting in a clean and polished character.
The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, leading to a crisp, elegant finish with lingering sweetness and gentle oak.
Modern and sophisticated, Riazul Cristalino Añejo is ideal for sipping or for use in elevated cocktails, offering the richness of an aged tequila with a lighter, more refined presentation.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairings
Taste Notes
Riazul Cristalino is celebrated for its "bright" profile, avoiding the heavy marshmallow sweetness found in lesser Cristalinos.
- Nose High-toned and aromatic. You will find notes of fresh agave and citrus zest, followed by sophisticated layers of vanilla bean, white chocolate, and a hint of lavender.
- Palate Silky and medium-bodied. It opens with honey and roasted pineapple, transitioning into a mid-palate of almond cream and black cherry. The French oak influence provides a subtle cinnamon and clove spice.
- Finish Exceptionally clean and crisp. It leaves a lingering trail of menthol, white pepper, and sweet agave, with a refreshing, mineral-driven exit.
Food Pairings
The "clear but complex" nature of this tequila makes it an incredible partner for light seafood and sophisticated appetizers.
- Savory Scallop Aguachile or Ceviche. The bright lime and chili in the dish amplify the citrus and agave notes, while the tequila’s silkiness matches the tender seafood.
- Appetizer Goat Cheese Crostini with Fig Jam. The tanginess of the cheese and the dark fruit of the fig highlight the lavender and stone fruit notes in the tequila.
- Main Grilled Branzino with Herbs. The charred skin of the fish resonates with the faint oak spice, while the white meat pairs with the clean finish.
- Sweet White Chocolate Mousse with Raspberries. The white chocolate palate of the Cristalino is a direct mirror to the dessert, while the berries provide a sharp, clean contrast.
About the brand
The Riazul story is centered on the heritage of the land and the vision of founder Inaki Orozco. The estate has been in his family for generations originally serving as a battleground during the Mexican War of Independence. Located in the Highlands the virgin soil of the estate is rich in volcanic minerals which produces agave with a higher sugar content and a distinct floral profile. Unlike many brands that use American whiskey barrels Riazul famously uses French white oak which is typically reserved for fine wines and cognacs. This choice results in a more delicate spice and a silken texture that has become the hallmark of the entire Riazul portfolio.
