About the product

John Walker & Sons Odyssey is an ultra-premium blended malt Scotch whisky crafted as a rare “triple malt,” created from just three exceptional single malts carefully selected and married together in European oak casks. Inspired by historical blending techniques, it represents a modern tribute to the heritage and craftsmanship of the House of Walker.

On the palate, it delivers a rich and layered profile with notes of honey, caramel, and dried fruit, complemented by hints of citrus, dark chocolate, and gentle spice. Subtle touches of toffee, nutmeg, and light salinity add complexity, creating a refined balance between sweetness and depth.

The texture is smooth and full-bodied, offering excellent integration and elegance. The finish is long and luxurious, with lingering spice, oak, and a soft, refined sweetness.

Presented in a distinctive nautical-inspired decanter, Odyssey is both a collector’s piece and a sophisticated sipping whisky, designed to celebrate blending at the highest level.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

Odyssey is known for its "oceanic" richness and deep, dark-fruit intensity.

  • Nose: Deep and captivating. Aromas of rich honey, berry fruits, and roasted walnuts, underpinned by a delicate, wafting wood smoke.
  • Palate: Sumptuous and oily. It opens with toffee and cooked plums, followed by blackcurrants and ginger. The mid-palate introduces layers of dark chocolate and espresso.
  • Finish: Monumentally smooth. It leaves a lingering sensation of dried fruits, sea salt, and a faint, sweet smokiness that feels like an old leather armchair.

Food Pairings

The combination of sherry-cask sweetness and subtle brine makes this whisky a perfect match for "surf and turf" luxury.

  • Savory: Seared Scallops with Pancetta. The saltiness of the pancetta highlights the maritime notes, while the buttery scallops mirror the whisky’s oily texture.
  • Main: Slow-Roasted Venison with a Blackberry Glaze. The dark fruit in the sauce is a direct bridge to the European oak/sherry influences in the blend.
  • Cheese: Aged Gouda or Stilton. The nutty crystals in an aged Gouda harmonize with the walnut notes, while a creamy blue cheese creates a sophisticated "sweet and funk" balance.
  • Sweet: Salted Caramel Tart. The salt makes the honey and toffee notes in the Odyssey "sing" on the palate.

About the brand

The "Nautical" Design: The bottle is engineered with a weighted base and a gyroscopic "swing" frame. This allows the bottle to rock back and forth without tipping over—a design originally patented by Sir Alexander Walker in 1932 to prevent breakage during rough sea voyages on ocean liners.

The Master Blender: Created by the legendary Jim Beveridge, Odyssey was inspired by the personal journals and blending notes of Sir Alexander Walker, who was knighted for his services to the industry.

The "Triple Malt" Rarity: Unlike the standard Blue Label (which is a blend of malt and grain), Odyssey uses only three malts. While the distilleries are a trade secret, it is widely believed to include heavy hitters from the Highlands and Speyside.
