About the product

The GlenAllachie 10-Year-Old French Virgin Oak Finish is a sophisticated single malt Scotch whisky that showcases the distillery's commitment to quality and innovation. Matured for a decade in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in French virgin oak, this expression delivers a refined balance of classic Speyside character with elegant oak-driven complexity.

Expect a rich palate featuring notes of orchard fruits, vanilla, and subtle spice, complemented by the creamy texture and warming finish that French oak imparts. The virgin oak finish adds layers of sophistication without overpowering the whisky's inherent smoothness and approachability.

Perfect for whisky enthusiasts seeking a premium dram that bridges tradition with modern craftsmanship. A versatile choice for sipping neat, with water, or as the foundation for a discerning cocktail.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

  • Nose: Elegant and complex. Waves of orange peel, heather honey, and soft spice, followed by notes of caramel, orchard fruits, and mocha.
  • Palate: A velvety mouthfeel. Layers of heather honey and brittle toffee are balanced by grapefruit, cinnamon, and silky earthy tannins.
  • Finish: Long and refined, with lingering notes of ginger, coffee bean, and toasted oak.

Food Pairings & Serving

  • Savory Pairing: Pairs beautifully with Roasted Duck with Orange Glaze. The citrus notes in the whisky mirror the sauce, while the French oak tannins cut through the richness of the duck.
  • Cheese Pairing: Best matched with a Creamy Brie or Camembert. The "earthy" sub-tones of the French oak harmonize with the mushroomy rind of the cheese.
  • Sweet Pairing: The ultimate companion for Crème Brûlée or Ginger Snap Biscuits.
  • The "Neat" Standard: To appreciate the nuances of the virgin wood, enjoy this neat in a tulip glass. Because it is bottled at 48%, a few drops of water can help "soften" the tannins and highlight the honeyed fruit.

About the brand

The GlenAllachie is an independent Speyside distillery led by the legendary Master Distiller Billy Walker. This expression is a standout member of the Virgin Oak Series (Batch 2), a collection designed to explore how different species of oak from specific regions influence the spirit. While most Scotch is aged in used barrels, this series uses "virgin" wood (never before held alcohol) to impart a bold, intense character. The French Oak used here is Quercus Robur sourced from the Haute-Garonne region near the Pyrenees—a fine-grained wood prized for its silky tannins.
