About the product

Elijah Craig Toasted Rye delivers bold rye spice with a distinctive toasted oak finish. This Kentucky straight rye whiskey combines traditional rye grain with innovative toasting techniques, creating layers of vanilla, caramel, and warm spice. Full-bodied and complex, it's perfect for sipping neat or crafting premium cocktails. A modern take on classic rye whiskey tradition.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

  • Nose: Inviting and sweet. Aromas of toasted oak, crème brûlée, and honey, with underlying hints of peppermint and hazelnut.
  • Palate: A silky, "juicy" mouthfeel. The traditional rye spice of black pepper and ginger is softened by layers of milk chocolate, marshmallow, and orange zest.
  • Finish: Clean and warming. It leaves a lingering impression of baking spices (cinnamon and nutmeg), vanilla, and a touch of sweet smoke.

Food Pairings & Serving

  • The "Desert" Serve: Its milk chocolate and marshmallow profile makes it an incredible companion for S'mores or Dark Chocolate Truffles.
  • Savory Pairing: Pairs excellently with Glazed Ham or Roasted Duck. The corn-heavy mash bill and toasted sweetness bridge the gap to fruit-based glazes.
  • Cheese Pairing: Match with an Aged Gouda or Smoked Provolone. The nutty and smoky qualities of the cheese play perfectly with the toasted oak influence.
  • Cocktail Choice: Because it is sweeter than standard ryes, it makes for a particularly "luxurious" Old Fashioned—try it with chocolate bitters to emphasize the finishing barrel's notes.

About the brand

Elijah Craig is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery and named after the Reverend Elijah Craig, who is often credited as the "Father of Bourbon" for being the first to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels. This expression, launched in late 2024 and becoming a highly sought-after staple by 2026, is the first label extension of their rye series. It follows the massive success of the Toasted Barrel Bourbon, applying the same innovative finishing technique to their "barely legal" rye to soften its spicy edges with creamy dessert notes
