About the product
Ardnamurchan Sherry Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a bold Highland expression that combines the distillery’s coastal, lightly peated style with the richness of sherry cask maturation. Crafted on Scotland’s rugged west coast, it reflects both maritime influence and modern whisky-making precision.
Matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, this whisky develops a deep and complex profile. On the palate, it reveals layers of dried fruit, raisins, and figs, balanced by notes of dark chocolate, caramel, and warm spice. Gentle peat smoke weaves through the profile, adding depth without overpowering the sherry sweetness.
The texture is rich and slightly oily, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering notes of oak, subtle smoke, and dried fruit sweetness.
Full-bodied yet balanced, Ardnamurchan Sherry Cask is a distinctive whisky that bridges classic sherry influence with a modern coastal character, making it ideal for both enthusiasts and collectors.
Tasting Profile & Food Pairings
Taste Notes
This is not a "clean" or "sweet" sherry bomb; it is industrial, meaty, and deeply complex.
- Nose Intense and savory. You will find notes of teriyaki beef jerky, salted peanut ice cream, and bonfire smoke on a damp beach. Underneath, there are hints of dark marmalade and Murray Mint candies.
- Palate Big and bold. It opens with smoky bacon and sticky BBQ ribs, followed by a mid-palate of red plums, cherries, and raisins. The texture is unctuous and oily, with a distinct mineral note like wet stones or chalk.
- Finish Long and maritime. It leaves a lingering sensation of sea salt, cigar boxes, and embers from a fireplace, with a final spicy kick of black pepper.
Food Pairings
The combination of peat smoke, sea salt, and sherry sweetness allows this whisky to pair with very heavy, flavorful foods.
- Savory Smoked Venison or Game Sausages. The earthy, lean meat is elevated by the dark fruit notes, while the fat in the sausage tames the 50 percent alcohol.
- Seafood Oysters with a drop of the whisky. The natural salinity of the spirit enhances the brine of the oyster, while the sherry fruit acts like a sophisticated garnish.
- Cheese Extra-Aged Blue Stilton. The pungency of the cheese stands up to the "dirty" sherry notes, creating a classic savory-sweet balance.
- Sweet Dark Chocolate Bark with Sea Salt and Ginger. The ginger highlights the maritime spice in the finish, while the chocolate brings out the espresso and cocoa notes from the European oak.
About the brand
Ardnamurchan Distillery was established in 2014 by the renowned independent bottler Adelphi. Located on the most westerly point of the British mainland, the distillery is a leader in sustainable production. It operates almost entirely on local renewable energy including hydroelectric power from the nearby river and a biomass boiler fueled by local woodchips. The distillery is famous for its transparency, using blockchain technology on every bottle so drinkers can track the exact journey of their whisky. Their house style is defined by a heavy, oily texture and a coastal saltiness that reflects the rugged Atlantic environment surrounding the warehouses.
