Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

Because of the high altitude and intense sun, this wine has a "vibrant" acidity that balances its deep fruit.

  • Appearance: Intense dark purple with brilliant violet highlights.
  • Aroma: A complex nose dominated by black cherry compote, fresh violets, and ripe blueberries, with a sophisticated "whisper" of vanilla and mocha from the oak.
  • Palate: Full-bodied but elegant. It features a "lush" mouthfeel with flavors of blackcurrant, black fig, and a touch of sweet spice.
  • Finish: Smooth and persistent, defined by ripe, silky tannins and a clean, mineral-edged finish.

Food Pairings

This Malbec is a "chameleon" at the dinner table, pairing well with everything from the grill to spicy international cuisine:

  • The Classic: Argentine Asado (grilled skirt steak with chimichurri) or a juicy ribeye.
  • International Spice: It is robust enough to handle Mexican carnitas, Cajun-spiced chicken, or mildly spicy Indian lamb curry.
  • Vegetarian: Hearty roasted root vegetables, portobello mushroom burgers, or lentil stews.
  • Cheese: Sharp Cheddar, smoked Gouda, or creamy Gorgonzola.
  • The Sweet Match: Surprisingly good with dark chocolate bark or sea-salt caramel.

About the brand

Lote 44 is the brainchild of Bodega Cuarto Dominio, a winery founded by two fourth-generation winemaking families: the Catenas and the Blanchards.

The Heritage: Javier Catena (son of the legendary Jorge Catena) and Andrés Blanchard combined their family legacies to focus on small-lot, high-altitude viticulture.

The Philosophy: The "Lote 44" name refers to a specific selection of vineyard parcels. The goal is to produce a Malbec that is "fresher" and more floral than the heavy, over-oaked styles of the past.
