About the product

Single Malts of Scotland Bunnahabhain Reserve Cask 10 Year Old is a limited small-batch Islay single malt, independently bottled to showcase the distillery’s signature unpeated style. Matured for a decade in carefully selected casks, it offers a refined and well-balanced profile.

On the palate, it reveals notes of honeyed malt, caramel, and vanilla, layered with dried fruit, toasted nuts, and gentle oak spice. Subtle maritime influences bring a light salinity, adding depth and character without overpowering the smooth, approachable nature of the whisky.

The texture is soft and slightly creamy, leading to a clean, medium-length finish with lingering sweetness, mild spice, and a delicate coastal edge.

Elegant and nuanced, this expression highlights the softer, more refined side of Islay whisky, making it a versatile choice for both new and experienced whisky drinkers.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairings

Taste Notes

This Bunnahabhain is significantly more "vibrant" and coastal than the standard distillery-bottled 12-year-old.

  • Nose Clean and maritime. You will find notes of fresh green apples, lemon zest, and white flowers, underpinned by a distinct scent of sea spray and wet stones.
  • Palate Creamy and textured. It opens with salted caramel and vanilla custard, followed by a mid-palate of dried apricots, roasted walnuts, and light baking spices.
  • Finish Long and cooling. It leaves a lingering trail of poached pears, white pepper, and a touch of saline brine that makes the mouth water.

Food Pairings

The "unpeated" but salty nature of this Islay malt makes it one of the best whiskies for seafood and delicate appetizers.

  • Savory Fresh Islay Oysters with a Squeeze of Lemon. The briny, mineral notes in the whisky act as a liquid garnish for the oysters.
  • Main Pan-Seared Sea Bass with Butter and Herbs. The creamy texture of the whisky matches the buttery fish, while the citrus notes cut through the richness.
  • Cheese Soft Goat Cheese or Young Manchego. The tangy acidity of goat cheese creates a beautiful contrast with the whisky's honeyed orchard fruits.
  • Sweet Crème Brûlée. The burnt sugar topping highlights the salted caramel and vanilla notes found in the ex-bourbon casks.

About the brand

Single Malts of Scotland is the premium independent bottling arm of Elixir Distillers which was founded by Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh in London. The brand is dedicated to sourcing exceptional casks from across Scotland and bottling them in their most natural form. Each release is either a single cask or a small batch marriage of five or fewer casks to ensure that the unique character of the distillery is never lost in a mass blend. Because they do not own the distilleries themselves they have the freedom to select only the best barrels from a wide variety of producers. Their whiskies are always bottled without chill filtration or artificial coloring which has made them a favorite for purists who want to taste the raw unfiltered heart of Scottish spirit.
