About The Product
Opus One 2018 is a highly acclaimed proprietary red wine from Napa Valley, representing the pinnacle of the collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. This vintage, like all Opus One releases, is a meticulously crafted Bordeaux-style blend, with Cabernet Sauvignon as the dominant grape, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. All fruit is sourced exclusively from their four distinguished estate vineyards in the Napa Valley. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes precision and minimal intervention, starting with hand-harvesting and intensive berry sorting to ensure only the finest grapes are used. Fermentation occurs in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, allowing for individual management of each lot. Extended maceration helps to build color and structure. The wine is then aged for approximately 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. These barrels are carefully selected from specific cooperages to complement the wine's character without overwhelming its fruit. The final blend is assembled after a year of barrel aging, a crucial decision by the winemaking team to achieve the optimal expression of the vintage. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its natural richness, resulting in a powerful, elegant, and exceptionally age-worthy wine.
